Confidentiality, Privacy, and Cybersecurity at the Brill Law Group

Bad guys worldwide are trying to hack, breach, leak, and sell people’s confidential information. Unfortunately, small businesses can be their favorite target for cyberattacks. We work hard to ensure that doesn’t happen at the Brill Law Group.

The Problem – Most Law Firms Treat Privacy and Cybersecurity as an Afterthought

The sad truth is that many lawyers are so focused on their overwhelming caseloads that their clients’ privacy, confidential information, and cybersecurity are mere afterthoughts. These firms use simple passwords like their phone number or address. This is like leaving a safe door at a bank wide open. Not here.

Personal injury lawyers are custodians of highly sensitive information of their clients. This includes:

  • Medical records
  • Tax returns or W2s
  • Billing records
  • DMV records
  • Insurance documents

These documents often contain clients’ personal identifying information, such as:

  • Dates of birth
  • Social security numbers
  • Driver’s license numbers
  • Addresses

This information is valuable to hackers seeking to steal personal information and sell it to the highest bidder. Furthermore, a client’s health information may contain highly personal and sensitive information.

Therefore, at the Brill Law Group, we handle your personal information with the utmost care.

Cybersecurity – Safeguarding Your Protected Information

While there are no guarantees in today’s world, our firm does everything possible to ensure that all of your information is protected. Our founder, Dan Brill, has personally consulted with cybersecurity experts, including former military officials, on cybersecurity best practices. They include:

  1. Using cloud-based, 256-bit encrypted storage and not local storage.
  2. Requiring all staff to use unique, 20+ character passwords that are difficult to guess.
  3. Requiring multi-factor authentication for all staff.
  4. Requiring regular password changes.
  5. Redundant backups of files to eliminate the risk of data loss.

Your Data Is Securely Stored with Amazon’s AWS

A chain is only as strong as its weakest link. When other law firms rely on local IT vendors and store their files on local servers, their data becomes vulnerable to breaches. It only takes one slip-up from that law firm’s IT company for the bad guys to get into their clients’ data.

At the Brill Law Group, we store our files using Amazon’s robust cloud service – AWS. As a client, your sensitive information will be stored and backed up in the most secure cloud infrastructure available today.

AWS is a fully encrypted cloud storage service trusted by millions of customers and sensitive organizations like government, healthcare, and financial services.

Client Confidentiality & Privacy Policy

Every communication between the Brill Law Group and our clients is 100% protected by the attorney-client privilege. That means no one outside of our relationship can discover any call, text, or email. Our conversations are strictly private and confidential.

Whenever we must exchange records with opposing counsel, we thoroughly analyze every record and redact out anything irrelevant or privileged.

When your case is over, the file is kept for seven years and then digitally erased.

Paperless Office Policy

Our office is 100% paperless. This is a conscious choice. Law firms that still run on paper operate with significant inefficiencies. Furthermore, firms that rely on large reams of paper risk forgetting to shred all paper documents with sensitive information.

At the Brill Law Group, running a paperless office makes us more efficient, but it also reduces possible security breaches. You never have to worry about a loose document falling into the wrong hands.
